The Paisley Market project is centred around creating a space that promotes healthy-body, healthy-mind. The site was once an operable mill and has since been purchased for an adaptive reuse renovation. This proposal explores the renovation of the Eastern building that previously held grain silos. The Western building will be converted into affordable living studio and one-bedroom apartments. The Paisley Market and Paisley Trails proposal gives the residents of the apartments and of the surrounding community the opportunity to invest in themselves by exploring healthy eating and the beautiful environment that surrounds the Mill. Paisley TrailsThe newly-proposed Paisley Trails boast a beautiful connection with the wetlands that surround the Teeswater River. Connecting to the Bruce County Rail Trail, the Paisley Trails host different links that accommodate bikers and hikers, and are fully accessible. The different routes allow all people, regardless of their physical ability, the opportunity to engage with nature. The trails are dog-friendly and include an off-leash dog beach catering to our four-legged friends. No matter if you wish to clear your mind or spend a day out with family, The Paisley Trails are the perfect getaway close to home. The Paisley Market and surrounding Paisley Trails have been adapted to accommodate all people, no matter physical ability. The trails have been made entirely wheelchair accessible using wood bridges over wetland areas, and Organic-Lock binder mixed into local recycled granite for all the paths. Organic-Lock is a high-performance organic binder that is environmentally friendly, water-permeable, resists erosion, all while maintaining strength and stability. This product is both LEED and ADA compliant. Site PlanThe Paisley Market proposal reimagines the four-storey Eastern side of the Mill. This proposal consists of a two-storey Farmers Market, a third-storey rentable event space and a fourth-storey community kitchen that is connected to the Western building apartments for their use. The Farmers Market brings fresh local produce and goods for the community to enjoy. A view of the Teeswater River from the outdoor market deck provides a stunning picture for all visitors. The site hosts the Paisley Trails and off-leash dog beach, as well as bike storage for both the residents of the apartments and the Market goers.
