PrefaceNature Millworks’ Resort & Cafe is a locally intrigued, adaptive reuse project that comprises a place for lounging, lodging, and learning. The attraction of the building comes from the historical elements that are architecturally inclined with the existing structure of the mill. The timber framework of the lounge patio is created using the locally sourced Paisley Architectural Millwork. Site PlanThe site consists mostly of woodlands, wetlands, and bodies of water. In retrospect the size of the Nature Milworks’ Resort & Cafe, building footprint being a little over 1000 sqft, is quite small in scale with regards to the site. This means there is a lot of space for trails or other types of tourist attractions that will entice possible visitors and enhance their stay with the mill. Floor PlansThe first floor includes a service desk for the hotel suites above, and to serve guests in the cafe and lounging area. The main entranceway includes an accessible entry ramp to the building to ensure the space is available for any disability or impairment. The lounge seating includes spaces for wheelchairs as well as table service. The second and third floors includes hotel suites to accommodate a service that is lacking in the Paisley area - a place to stay. ElevationsThe Nature Millworks’ Resort & Cafe will take on the approach of passive house design strategies which induces a set of materials and amicable qualities towards its existing surroundings that the building must entail. The historical mill will include triple pane windows, continuous interior insulation to encapture a constant temperature for the inside, and will exploit passive solar design with the use of awnings to encapsulate daylight during the different seasons. Building SectionThe second and third floors consist of ten different hotel suites that will accommodate a space for relaxation and a place to reside. Each suite welcomes guests with the use of natural materials whether it be of stone or wood. The chambers include an extraordinary view of the surrounding nature. Interior RenderThe main floor that includes the cafe and lounging area will transform the space into a comfortable and public location to loll and enjoy the morning sunrise or the evening dusk. The space will feature laminated framed posters along the open walls to abbreviate historical elements of the mill, promote local businesses, and display the surrounding nature of the Paisley and Brockton area. 3D Wall Section
