Northeast Render The goal of this adaptive reuse is to provide the client with a retail space that can be rented out to various members of the local community to sell their art, reused furniture or crops. The design was meant to mimic a cottage look while not taking away too much from the street face by request of the client. The orientation of the addition is focused on providing as much view to the surrounding river and forest as possible. The second floor balcony is intended to be used as a retail space in the summer for weekly farmer's markets. Please click the slide show in order to see alternative views with lighting/materials. Site Floor Plans The design of the floor plan is to create an open, busy space that would resemble the same feeling when entering a crowded mill or industrial building. The mezzanine area was created to allow as much natural light through the building as possible with the larger windows on the second floor. This area is also sited so that when entering you are immediately able to look up to the second story that will have art displays or goods. Elevations The materials were chosen so that they could not take away too much from the existing building but still be unique and separate itself from the original building. Section The purpose of this section is to show the travel of natural light throughout the space and the view provided by the mezzanine opening.
