CONCEPT My design goals for this adaptive reuse project are:
Circulation: To have a connection between the two spaces a silo shaped Panoramic Elevator is proposed near the reception area with two landings, one for second floor and an other one for the forth floor level where the existing door exists. a small bridge between the elevator and the door created for a potential link with the apartment building. Another outdoor panoramic elevator added to connect the patio with the observation point. For better natural light penetration and ventilation, operable Sky lights and more windows on the south and north façades are used.
DETAILED PLAN
MATERIAL SELECTION Throughout the design process, my main strategy was to keep historic architectural style of the mill building as much as possible, so, the south, east and west facades are almost kept untouched with only more windows matching the existing ones. For the new addition I chose three main materials.
INITIAL IDEA When I started the design process I came up first with the below idea. However, when I consulted the OBC document I found that this ramp cannot not meet the code requirement!
