Since the silo is in a developing community with a school nearby, we believe a library/cafe will be greatly beneficial. What better way to engage a community while still respecting the heritage than to introduce a library/cafe where people of all ages may come and interact. Site Plan Ground Floor Plan Second Floor Plan Third Floor Plan Section South South Elevation East Elevation 3D Wall Section To build sustainably, more efficiently, and affordably, as shown in the detail, we chose timber construction for our extension. Timber is fantastic to build with since there is an abundance amount of timber in the country, it is very workable in the sense that you can shape it easily and timber construction is less pollutant than many other means of construction. Since our extension is quite small, we chose an r30 air-tight wall construction with an r50 roof construction. We believe these walls are more than efficient enough to keep the air quality inside high at a more affordable cost.
